Eugene is Oregon's second largest city with a population of about 120,000. It covers an area of about 36 square miles with the Willamette River running through the heart of the city. The elevation of downtown Eugene is about 400 feet above sea level and ranges up to over 2,000 feet at the summit of Spencer Butte at the southern end of the city. The longitude and latitude is approximately 123 degrees west by 44 degrees north.

Eugene's climate is rather mild, with a yearly average of 53 degrees, due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean (only 58 miles away). Normal rainfall averages about 43 inches, most of which falls between September and May. For more weather information, see Weather.
